The John Montesante Quintet is a stylish, horn-led combo formed in 1990, which performs a modern take on standards and bebop. Regular members appearing this evening are:John Montesante (trumpet & flugelhorn), Jim Glasson(saxophones), Scott Lambie (drums), Dean Addison (double bass), Joe Ruberto (piano).

The JMQ will feature Elly Hoyt, who is a truly gifted vocalist with an intoxicating love of music, which infects her audience. Her talents as a Jazz soloist were obvious from the outset. As James Morrison states, “From the first moment I heard Elly sing, I knew she had that indefinable thing that makes one a jazz singer. It’s not just a sound or a choice of notes, but a way of approaching a song that lets the listener know – this is the real thing!”

She studied at Brisbane Con with her mentor John Hoffman; subsequently won a Generations of Jazz Scholarship; then her debut CD won the 2011 Bell Award for the best Jazz Vocal Album, and she is shortly to return to New York where she previously studied. And at 26, Elly takes it all in her stride, with warmth and humility.

Come along and enjoy a superb evening of jazz, showcasing mature Jazz musicians and this rising star. A must for the discerning jazz-lover.
