The Sydney Kendo Club is running a 10-week Kendo Beginner Course starting from 2 May 2013. Kendo is the modern Japanese martial art of sword-fighting which originated with the samurai class of feudal Japan. This course aims to teach you the Kendo basics, including etiquette, footwork, cutting techniques and various training method. You should be ready to train in the traditional Kendo uniform and armour about mid-way through the course. By the end of the course, you will be ready to merge into the Sydney Kendo Club's regular Wednesday and Saturday classes as well as be graded at the NSW State Kendo Grading.

This course will run every Thursday for 10 weeks. It is designed for adults over 16 years of age. (The club also run a separate class for children under 16. See club website above for details.)

The course fee will cover the 10-week course fee, Australian Kendo Renmei and NSW Kendo Association annual membership fee and insurance cover, as well as the shinai (bamboo sword). If you are keen and serious about advancing to the regular club training sessions, you should consider purchasing your own set of bogu (armour), which is approximately $350 for a set of quality and reasonably priced bogu on some online Kendo equipment stores. Your instructors will provide guidance on how to purchase a set of bogu.

Registration: You must complete the course registration process prior to the start date of the course to allow us to prepare equipments for your first lesson. Please visit the Sydney Kendo Club website for registration details.
