On Tuesday 4 June, the hilarious John Conway together with the brilliant Matt Hardy will take to the stage at The Local.

Most funny people who leave Perth in the hopes of cracking the UK comedy scene are lucky if they even score a job as an usher at somewhere like the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, let alone pull of a cracker solo show. John Conway moved overseas and went from being a person to an Experience - what's more, he made the whole 'wild success' thing look easy.

Matt Hardy is a Melbourne-based comedian and comedy writer who was the first Australian to cement himself full-time on the UK live circuit spending eight years there in the 1990s, including regular appearances at Jongleurs and The Comedy Store in Leicester Square. A regular at many international stand-up comedy events, he is the author of Saturday Afternoon Fever, which became the basis for three seasons of a one-man show adaptation at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. Hardy also appeared in the Festival with his own take on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, along with special guest Julie Dawn Cole, who portrayed Veruca Salt in the 1971 film version.

Building on the momentum of the wildly successful Melbourne Comedy Festival, The Local has launched a comedy series - LOL Comedy - featuring some of Australia’s best comedic talent.

The idea was born from the recognition that Melbournians love live entertainment in intimate spaces, and that smaller venues have an opportunity to carve a niche during the months when festivals in Melbourne are few and far between. With Melbourne positioned as the live entertainment capital of Australia, we are confident that this new series will fill an entertainment gap.
