Already receiving acclaim from cultural tastemakers such as The New York Times and The Fader, Machine Gun Kelly was awarded MTV’s Hottest Breakthrough MC for 2011, and is undoubtedly one to watch.

At just 23 Machine Gun Kelly already has an enviable back catalogue of music, releasing his first mixtape ‘Stamp of Approval’ in 2006 at just 16. Since then he has released a further seven mixtapes, an EP and his debut studio album ‘Lace Up’, released in 2012 through Diddy’s ‘Bay Boy’ label. XXL awarded the album an XL score and also included Machine Gun Kelly on their Freshman list for 2012.

Machine Gun Kelly makes his debut trip to Australia off the back of his latest mixtape, Black Flag released in June of this year. Featuring guests such as Pusha T, Meek Mill, Wiz Khalifa and French Montana.

Born Colson Baker in Houston, Texas, MGK lived in almost a dozen places including Egypt, before moving to Denver, Colorado with his father after his mother began a new life with a new man. "I don't have a relationship with my mom, she left when I was nine years old," says Machine Gun Kelly.

In Denver, the Bakers lived with Machine Gun Kelly's aunt. Though the father and son had each other, they couldn't lay claim too much else. As his dad fought depression and unemployment, the young MC split his time between wearing two school outfits and being bullied by the neighbourhood kids. "I used to stand out because I was tall and I couldn't really fight back then," says Machine Gun Kelly, "then I got tired of getting beat up so I started fighting people with my words instead. I got the name Machine Gun Kelly because of my rapid-fire delivery when I was 15 and started doing shows.”
