Melbourne Ukulele Festival 2013 kicks off with a bang Friday March 1.

Opening night: seated, standing or dinner and a show.

Features internationally acclaimed, Canadian uke legend, James Hill, appearing with the captivating Anne Janelle on cello and live performances by: Rob Clifford; Tyrone and Lesley; Bosko and Honey; A.J. Leonard and Jenny Rowlands and Bradfield Dumpleton.

Festival first-timers include Sarah Carroll, Kahiwa Sebire, Ben Hur, Matthew Fagan, Kook on a Uke, plus classy jazz from The Janet Seidel Trio featuring the sensational Chuck Morgan! Many more interstate and Victorian gems are listed here.

Uke groups include The Ukastle Ukestra, The Gippsland Ukers, UroC: Ukulele Republic of Canberra, Newcastle Ukulele Ensemble, Uke East (Sydney) and Uke4Kids. And of course the makers of MUF: MUK, The Melbourne Ukulele Kollective! (Hooray!)

National ukulele superstars include: Bosko and Honey, AJ Leonard, Tyrone and Lesley, Rose Turtle Ertler, Sam Lemann, Renee Searles and the inimitable 'and many more!'.

Saturday's line up spear headed by ukulele jazz master Benny Chong from Hawaii.

Indie duo, Verano East (LA), will make their MUF debut, and there’s a whole plane load of Kiwis crossing the Tasman: The Big Muffin Serious Band, The Pukes and Thermaleles.

Workshops for the young and not so young, beginners to advanced $15-$25 per person. Places limited.
