Established in 2012, the New Music Studio at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music exists to inspire a wide array of composition and contemporary performance activity. In 2013 the New Music Studio is giving opportunities to local and emerging artists, and includes the debut of the New Music Ensemble at the MCM, featuring staff and prominent students.

Featuring staff and alumni, including Justine Anderson, Jennifer Enchelmaier, Antony Field, Phoebe Green, Zac Johnston and Peter Neville, 6˚ is dedicated to playing works rarely heard in Australia. This concert celebrates Berio, Lachenmann and Furrer, and includes the world premiere of a new piece for viola by Australian composer James Rushford.
