Adamstown Uniting Centre presents the Newcastle Army Big Band to take you down memory lane.

The Australian Army Band Corps (AABC) role is to provide the Army with all musical support and to promote its public image and operational effectiveness. The Newcastle Army Band is part of the AABC, which is one of many corps that make up the Australian Army.

The musicians of the AABC are soldiers of the Australian Army Reserve and are required to support many tasks with a variety of different ensembles including concert band, marching band, stage-band, woodwind and brass quintets, jazz quintet, rock band, vocal and other small groups. Do you fancy yourself as a versatile vocalist, guitarist, keyboard player, drummer or piper? The majority of band members are paid to practice, perform and are not required to move from the region at any time.

The Newcastle Army Band will be under it’s Director of Music, Captain David Thompson. It will perform at the Adamstown Uniting Church on Sunday 14 April at 2pm. All proceeds will go to help the newly formed Newcastle Youth Orchestra. This new startup aims to motivate emerging young talent through live orchestral music. As a recent blog in Urban Insider stated “This doesn’t just involve giving these performers a chance to play live to large audiences, but will nurture quality music education programs, give lasting concert experiences as well as open up the world of orchestra to new audiences that haven’t had a chance to witness this type of music in Newcastle before”.
