Melbourne’s very own Vintage Machinery Rally featuring several hundred vintage and historic engines and related exhibits is a fantastic day out for the entire family. Run and hosted by the Melbourne Steam Traction Engine Club and this year celebrating our 50th Anniversary.

Steam exhibits include traction engines, among them a pair of massive Fowler Z7 steam ploughing engines, steam rollers, portable steam engines and a large and varied collection of industrial and marine steam engines and pumps, most of which have been lovingly restored to operating condition and will be running all weekend.

Alongside the steam is an extensive collection of massive industrial diesel engines and generators, also magnificently restored and running, bringing history to life. You are unlikely to see a comparable display elsewhere.

Smaller farming engines and agricultural machinery from yesteryear are also well represented, and will be seen in their working clothes, running vintage hay baling demonstrations and grain grinding, pumping water and chopping wood.

Practical demonstrations are a feature and will include working horse displays, rock crushing, ploughing and road making. See huge diggers and bulldozers and other earth moving machinery in action, and witness the awe-inspiring 40 ton Rapier Walking Dragline in operation.

For the kids, young and young at heart, take a ride on the miniature railway or soak up the sights with a tractor ride.

Also on display will be lots of vintage cars, trucks and tractors, motorbikes and even a few old army tanks. See model planes, trains and automobiles, model boats, helicopters, model engines and Meccano constructions. Wonder at exhibitions of vintage oil lamps, old oil cans, historic tools and wood turning, vintage cash registers, counting machines and radios.

And there’s much more.

Extensive free car parking. Food and refreshments available, shaded picnic areas, chairs and tables and facilities. The grounds are entirely wheelchair-friendly.
