This year, the Starlight Children’s Foundation celebrates 25 years of transforming the experience of hospitalisation and treatment for seriously ill children across Australia, and will kick start celebrations on Starlight Day, Friday 3 May 2013.

Held nationally, Starlight Day is Starlight's biggest annual fundraising event and will launch the theme of its 25 year celebration, ‘Shine On’.

Thousands of volunteers will hit the streets on Friday 3 May to raise much-needed funds to help Starlight 'Shine On' and continue supporting seriously ill children and their families into the future.

Starlight CEO, Louise Baxter said: "Starlight’s innovative programs are considered by health professionals to be integral to the total care and wellbeing of thousands of seriously ill children and young people around the country.

"Funds raised on Starlight Day will help secure the future of these much needed programs, including Starlight Express Rooms, and Starlight’s Wish-Granting Program, which will grant its 8,000th life-changing wish in 2013."

To celebrate this milestone, 25 Starlight Ambassadors will lend their support throughout the year. Ambassadors will include celebrities, Starlight children (past and present) and their parents, volunteers & health professionals. Ambassadors include tennis legend John Newcombe, swimming champion Kieren Perkins, celebrity chef Neil Perry, classical guitarist and former Starlight wish child Nathan Cavaleri and Paralympic swimmer and former Starlight child Jay Dohnt.

Individuals, corporations, schools and community groups are encouraged to get involved in Starlight Day, to donate, volunteer and help fundraise.
