Visionary music educator and conductor Peter Seymour originally founded Sydney Youth Orchestra in 1973. Since then, SYO has grown to become an organisation comprising ten orchestras and ensembles for over four hundred gifted young musicians aged between seven and twenty-five. Over the past forty years more than 2500 young people have performed in the Sydney Youth Orchestra and thousands more have participated in the extended training program.

Since it’s inception, SYO has inspired some of Australia’s brightest and most successful instrumental stars, including Richard Tognetti, Kirsten Williams, Alex Henery, Shefali Pryor, Marina Marsden, Leone and Fiona Ziegler and Adrian Keating to name just a few. Past musical directors include John Hopkins, Peter Seymour, Richard Gill, Stuart Challender, Henryk Pisarek, John Harding and Thomas Woods.

In 2013, SYO is going from strength to strength as Artistic Director Max McBride leads four vibrant and energetic concerts across the subscription series. The first of these, SYO1 features soloist Tamara Anna Cislowska. Saint-Saens - Marche Militaire Francaise, Britten - Piano Concerto No. 1, Op. 13 and Berlioz - Symphonie Fantastique, Op. 14 will be performed. Don't miss this passionate performance by Sydney's best young musicians.
