When The Importance of Being Earnest was first performed in 1895, contemporary reviews all praised the play's humour and many considered it Oscar Wilde's best work to-date. It crystallised his fame into a solid artistic reputation.

Today the play is considered Wilde's masterpiece and Roo Theatre Company is very excited to bring this classic comedy to Shellharbour.

Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest is a story of deception, multiple identities, love and farcical misunderstandings. Algernon knows Earnest. Jack knows Earnest. Gwendolyn loves Earnest and so does Cecily. Jack and Algernon are in love with Gwendolyn and Cecily, however Jack knows nothing of his heritage, and this could stand in the way of him being with his true love.
In the city and the country, confusion abounds and deceptions are exposed until, at last, in the end, after everything has unravelled and true identities are revealed, love can finally be found ... or does Aunt Augusta have other ideas? And what is the secret that Miss Prism is keeping?

The Importance of Being Earnest is a show you will be very sorry to miss!
