The Internationally recognised Australian jazz pianist, Tom Vincent, is coming to town! His dynamic new Quintet features the swingin' vocalist Heather Stewart.

Tom's bands are increasingly in demand at national and international jazz and music festivals with his regular touring including Europe, Asia and South America. Branford Marsalis chose Tom's band as the support act for his recent Australian Tour.

Vincent’s music is solidly grounded in the jazz tradition. His major influences include Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington and Sarah Vaughan. Tom is charismatic, spontaneous and cool. He is well known for his fresh and engaging audience rapport.

The Quintet is fronted by earthy jazz singer, Heather Stewart, who has been performing with Tom for several years. Heather has a strong, expressive and bluesy voice with authentic phrasing, inspired by Billie Holiday, Bessie Smith and Memphis Minnie. On double bass is the solid and driving Leigh Barker, a leading force in Australian jazz today and long-time collaborator with Tom. Alf Jackson is the band's exciting new drummer and there is also great synergy, blending and sensitivity with saxophonist Danny Healy. In fact Tom is so impressed with Danny's exceptional talents, it is the reason he set up this current tour. This collaborative ensemble guarantees an entertaining evening.

From the beginning Tom drew the attention of Australian Jazz great Don Burrows who recoginsed him as a 'trail blazer'. After Tom had studied under Don at the Sydney Conservatorium Don then urged him to continue his study abroad. Tom lived in New York City for three years, studying, composing and performing (International Study Grant, Australia Council). Tom is considered by many to be one of the few real jazz pianists in Australia today, and one who has mastered an individual expression alongside the spirit of tradition.

For many years Tom has been composing, recording and performing live for ABC TV and ABC Classic FM. He composed the theme music and incidental music for The Collectors, has been arranger for the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra and is about to release his fifth CD. Tom has been awarded numerous Australia Council and Arts Tasmania Grants for his international and national touring, composing and recording.

The Tom Vincent Quintet plays classic [jazz] standards of the early 20th century plus a few surprises. All members of the group are great communicators with the audience and a wonderful night is expected at this very special Star Court Theatre / Gold Cost Jazz Club / Brisbane Jazz Club concert. A night definitely not to be missed.
