The picturesque Araluen Botanical Park in Roleystone will host the 2013 annual WA Tree Climbing Championships, where the skill of tree climbers will be tested as they ascend to precarious heights of up to 35 metres from the ground and across tree branches in the battle to represent Western Australia in the National Tree Climbing Championships in Melbourne in April.

Held over two days on the weekend of April 6 and 7, climbers compete in five events designed to simulate an arborist’s typical working day, testing different climbing disciplines with significant emphasis placed on ascension speed, technical climbing skills, planning and safety.

Preliminary events will be held from 8am – 4pm on Saturday April 6 with the finals event to determine the male and female state champions scheduled for Sunday April 7.

The WA Tree Climbing Championships is expected to attract professional climbers from across Australia, New Zealand and the Asia Pacific region.
