The Australian Chamber Choir is recognised internationally for its exceptional performances of difficult 20th century repertoire. Director Douglas Lawrence was in London in July to play an organ concert at St Paul's Cathedral. He and his son Jacob (who sings tenor in the Australian Chamber Choir), heard Vaughan Williams' Valiant for Truth in Westminster Abbey. They were moved by the at once wistful and powerful rendering of Mr Valiant-for-Truth's final words from Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress and then blown away by the spine-tingling final fanfare of trumpet-like outbursts from the choir. Douglas immediately declared it a high-point of the choral repertoire and undertook to give the work pride of place in our first concert for 2013.
