One of the purposes of our existence as a community organisation is to provide opportunities for symphonic performers to develop their skills, gain further orchestral experience and expand their artistic horizons. For conductors and soloists, finding such opportunities can be a real challenge. For some years our charitable trust, the Stonnington Symphony Artistic Development Fund, has been the recipient of enormous generosity from many of our supporters, allowing us to pass on that support to 2 emerging symphonic artists in what we hope will become a semi-regular feature of our programming. Having earlier in 2014, invited submissions from suitable conductors and instrumental soloists, Artistic Director, Roy Theaker, will be their mentoring Ingrid Martin and Joshua Rogan through the preparation and performance process, culminating in a performance of their selected works with the full orchestra in this concert.

Rounding out this exciting project and our 2014 series, Roy will direct Stonnington Symphony in Ravel’s monumental arrangement of Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition. This promises to be a thrilling concert one definitely not to be missed.
