'Getting on with business' is the timely theme for our 2014 farm forestry evening seminars. Our guest speakers have been chose because they embody this theme - all of them playing a significant role in the renewal of the forestry sector.

This year's seminars involve a new format - our sit down meal has been replaced by a satisfying finger food menu providing you more opportunity to network, meet the speakers and discuss your forestry interests with others.

Our Burnie Seminar will be held on Wednesday 13th August at the 'The Point' Function Room, West Park, Burnie whilst the Launceston Seminar will be held on Thursday 14th August at our NEW venue, 'Hotel Grand Chancellor', 29 Cameron Street, Launceston.

RSVP and prior payment is essential by Wednesday 6th August.

Guest speakers include:

The Hon. Paul Harriss, Minister for Resources - An opportunity to hear from our new Minister who has a proven track record of support for the forestry sector.

Mr James Davies, Chairman of Forico Pty Ltd, Chairman of Timberlink Australia Pty Ltd and Head of Funds Management, New Forests Asset Management - James will discuss the emergence of new trends in forest ownership and in the market place, how these trends fit with the objectives of institutional owners and what it means for the Tasmanian plantation forestry sector. He will also focus specifically on New Forests’ plans for the ex-Gunns estate and their experience over the past 18 months establishing the Timberlink business which includes the sawmill at Bell Bay.

Mr Rob Mallinson, Managing Director of Wood Energy Australia Pty Ltd and Living Energy Ltd and Chairman of the Bioenergy Association of New Zealand - Rob is a bio-energy plant installer who has recently completed the installation of a bio-energy plant at the Beaufort Hospital in Victoria, with others in development. He will discuss how Tasmania might maximise the value that can be delivered by this renewable and carbon neutral heat source.

Mr Matthew Gee, Director of Island Workshop Pty Ltd - Matty is a carpenter, registered builder and design professional with a passion for timber construction. He is one of the growing number of building professionals who believe it is a critical time for Tasmania to bridge the gap between those who grow trees and the end users of timber products. Matty will tell the story of how designers and builders aspire to use timber in construction and the potential to establish new, locally made timber products.

The Hon. Adriana Taylor, MLC - independent Member of the Legislative Council for Elwick. Adriana is passionate about revitalising the Tasmanian forestry sector in a sustainable way. She has travelled extensively researching new opportunities for forest products. She will give us the benefit of her insights and reflect on the earlier presentations.
