Australia’s Richest Singing Competition announce eleven semi-finalists

National Adjudicator Jeffrey Black with Special Guest Simon Tedeschi

Eleven young singers from Australia and New Zealand have been chosen from nearly 80 applicants to compete in the Semi-Finals of the 2014 IFAC Australian Singing Competition to be held on Wednesday 30 July 2014 at The Concourse, Chatswood.

Acclaimed concert pianist David Harper will accompany the semi-finalists and special guest Simon Tedeschi will perform on the night.

The ASC is regarded as Australasia’s richest and most prestigious singing competition that aims to identify and encourage talented young classical singers. The competitors are vying for a number of career-building awards and opportunities valued at more than $180,000.00

The competition is open to classical and opera singers who are under the age of 26. From the eleven semi-finalists five will be chosen to compete in the Finals Concert on Saturday 30 August at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. The lucky five performers will have the opportunity to attend a Masterclass conducted by Jeffrey Black the very next day.

Singers auditioned during heats held in Australia and for the first time in London. The London heats were held at Guildhall with an impressive adjudication panel consisting of Australia’s Yvonne Kenny, David Harper and Linnhe Robertson. The Australian heats were presided over by National Adjudicator Jeffrey Black.

This year’s ten Semi-Finalists are:-
Kate Amos Victoria Soprano 24
Jessica Boyd Victoria Soprano 22
Cristina Russo Victoria Soprano 24
Anna Voshege Victoria Soprano 24
Samantha Clarke Western Australia Soprano 23
Corinne Cowling Western Australia Soprano 24
Amy Manford Western Australia Soprano 21
Jessica Harper NSW Soprano 24
Joel Scott NSW Tenor 24
Iain Henderson Queensland Tenor 25
Isabella Moore New Zealand Soprano 24

Now in its 33rd year the ASC has showcased nearly 3,000 singers who have competed for more than $2.8million in prizes.

After winning the Australian Singing Competition, singers such as Rachelle Durkin, Amelia Farrugia, Stuart Skelton and Paul Whelan have all gone on to achieve national and international acclaim.
