Big Bike Day is Leichhardt Council's annual bicycle event held every year in September, for both avid and casual bike riders of all ages. The day features entertainment, activities, free bike workshops, bike maintenance, raffle prizes and a group bike ride around the bay.
The ride is just over 6km long at a moderate pace (see map). We use on and off-road shared paths. Leichhardt Bicycle Users Group volunteers and members of the Bike Police Unit will escort the group during the ride.
Everyone is encouraged to join us on the ride, although riders must be 12 years of age or older. Younger people are free to remain in the park during the ride, where there will be plenty of activities for kids.
The day will start with free bike checks and registration for the big bike ride. Get to the park early to make sure you get registered. After the big bike ride, a free healthy lunch will be provided. Remember to bring your own water bottle and fill up at the water station.
Free bike skills workshops for all ages will be offered throughout the day. Other ongoing entertainment includes music, face-painting, a rock climbing wall and unicycling, plus the Big Air School will be back again to offer free BMX workshops! Everyone is welcome regardless of age or cycling experience.
