At the height of his career in 1873, Brahms received a gift from Johann Baptist Streicher – the ‘ultimate piano’ that thereafter remained his sole personal instrument. A sibling piano, also built in Vienna by Streicher, now resides at the Queensland Conservatorium – an ideal vehicle for the sonorous and expansive chamber music of Brahms. Hear Brahms’ mature but compact C minor Trio Op.101 and the radiant A major quartet Op.26 performed by Queensland Conservatorium’s Peter Roennfeldt on this wonderful sibling piano.
