Tickets to Townsville’s prestigious Chefs in the North dinner, hosted by Maggie Beer, are selling quickly with limited seats available to the opening event of the renowned Australian Festival of Chamber Music (AFCM). Strong interest in all festival events this year has seen the Palm Island Concert and Concert Crawl, both debut festival events for 2014, already sell out.

Maggie Beer will return as host of the Chefs in the North dinner for her fourth consecutive year, joined by ABC Classic FM presenter Damien Beaumont. The duo will entertain guests at the culinary highlight event on 31 July, where local chefs from Townsville’s best restaurants team up with Australia’s elite chefs to produce a sumptuous five-course degustation staged on the waterfront lawns of Jupiters Casino.

David Pugh, Head Chef and owner of Restaurant Two (Brisbane), returns as Executive Chef for the evening, supported by distinguished chefs from some of the best Australian restaurants, including Spirit House (Gold Coast) Head Chef and owner Ben Bertei, Melbourne’s dynamic Taxi Kitchen Executive Chef, Tony Twitchet and The Town Mouse Head Chef, Dave Verheul and Orpheus Resident Head Chef, Arie Prabowo.

North Queensland chefs paired with them will be Grant Phillips, Watermark Executive Chef, Rodney Smith Peppers Blue on Blue Resort Magnetic Island Executive Chef, Jason Stark, A Touch of Salt Sous Chef and Michelle Wells, Seasoned Restaurant Pastry Chef. The team has been brought together by chef co-ordinator Matt Merrin, the owner and Head Chef of Jam Corner in Townsville.

Using the very best of Far North Queensland’s seasonal produce, the team will create a delectable feast matched with fine Australian wines from Robert Oatley. While enjoying their meals, guests will get a taste of the upcoming festival programme with Artistic Director Piers Lane selecting AFCM artists to perform throughout the evening, with the stunning Magnetic Island and Coral Sea as their backdrop.

Chefs in the North has quickly become a festival favourite, combining Townsville’s finest attributes, from its local produce and talented chefs to its stunning scenery and perfect weather, with compelling performances from some of the Festival’s top classical musicians.

Held annually, The Australian Festival of Chamber Music (AFCM) is recognised as Australia’s most prestigious international chamber music event. Celebrating its 24th year, the Festival runs from 1 – 9 August, presenting performances from acclaimed musicians from across Australia and overseas in a range of chamber music styles.

AFCM principal partners include; the Queensland Government through Tourism and Events Queensland and Arts Queensland; Townsville City Council; and Australia Council for the Arts. The multi-award winning Australian Festival of Chamber Music is recognised as a major event on the Tourism and Events Queensland calendar.
