France is a nation steeped in choral tradition, with many of its greatest composers being renowned for their supple approaches to writing for the voice. In its second concert of the 2014 season, the vibrant Collegium Musicum Choir – resident at UNSW – presents a glorious mass setting by Charles Gounod and the delightful Oratorio de Noel of Camille Saint-Saens, a contemporary of Gounod’s and one of his most ardent admirers. Debussy’s Trois chansons d’Orleans, performed by the Burgundian Consort, rounds out what promises to be a concert of charm, warmth, and elegance.
