Whilst something of a hidden treasure, the historic Female Orphan School on the Parramatta campus of the University of Western Sydney is of immense significance to Australia's social history. It is one of the very few surviving buildings of its size dating from the early colonial period. Now fully restored as a public exhibition space and home for the Whitlam Institute, the building is open for the public to enjoy.

The choice is yours - you can simply wander and enjoy the building and exhibitions, or register for a tour of the Female Orphan School run by a local company, Past Time Tours. This tour will take you on a journey around this historic building as you explore the stories of some of the children who lived here.

Bookings required - 02 9685 9210

This event is being presented by the Whitlam Institute within the University of Western Sydney as part of the National Trust Heritage Festival 2014.
