Based on Richard Llewellyn’s classic novel, How Green Was My Valley tells the story of the Morgan family, their life and misadventures in a close-knit Welsh coal-mining community.

Told through the eyes of Huw, a child in the story, but as the narrator, an adult, the film is a lament for the past and wistfulness for what has been lost in the march of progress.

Starring Maureen O’Sullivan and Roddy McDowall, How Green Was My Valley is an delightful film about families, love and time.

Nominated for ten Oscars, the film won five, honoring Ford’s Direction, Arthur Miller’s Cinematography and Art direction. Sara Allgood was nominated for Supporting Actress, as the gentle but strong mother, Beth Morgan, and Donald Crisp won the Supporting Actor Oscar for playing Mr. Morgan, the stern patriarch who is later killed in the mine.
