4 week Learn mindful meditation: course details.

This 4 week course consists of 4 x 1.5 hour classes held one night per week over 4 weeks and costs $119.

The course is structured to teach you how to meditate by yourself without having to rely on a group, or a teacher. It aims to give you the skills to enhance your life and health through stress reduction, improved sleep, mental clarity and increased quality of life.

Each class includes 2-4 meditations with theory, guidance and discussion.

We teach four main techniques covering relaxation and calmness, the cornerstones of meditation.

1. Body-movement relaxation. (helps to soften the body and mind and builds a foundation for the following techniques)
2. Body-scan relaxation. (may help you sleep better, lower blood pressure, reduce accelerated aging and fatigue, and better manage pain or illness)
3. Body-sense calmness. (including breath awareness, helps train you to be more calm, relaxed and happy)
4. Mental calm. (effective in rapid control of overactive, runaway minds.)

The course is cumulative, gradually moving from theory into longer guided exercises incorporating multiple techniques. Time is given to individual discussion and feedback, and offers the opportunity to reflect on results and progress.

Learning is made easier within the group structure and guided by a teacher, but often the hard part is training yourself to do it outside the class! So we include the study of triggers and reminders that can help both in your formal sit down practice, or when using the techniques as short restorative ‘time outs’ during your normal activities to calm yourself, avoid exhaustion and keep yourself functioning with less stress all day long.

You are likely to get good results from the very first class, but just like any skill, meditation takes practice to learn. We suggest 10-15 minutes most days, either in one sitting or made up of several shorter sessions throughout the day, is necessary to sustain the benefits. It usually requires a minimum of 4 weeks to consolidate your training.

During the course we encourage you to meditate in chairs, not seated on the floor or lying down. If you can’t attend your usual class, you can attend any other class that week or later. If you miss some classes, you can catch them up in the following courses.
