Imagine better: tackling loneliness in mental health

Loneliness and social isolation are significant problems for people with mental illness. This year Mental Illness Fellowship Victoria’s Bruce Woodcock Memorial Lecture looks at how we can all play our part in tackling these issues.

Guest speaker Neil Barringham, from Queensland community inclusion organisation A Place to Belong, will provide a practical guide to how we can contribute to transform communities and build networks for people isolated because of their experience of mental illness.

Neil will be joined at the 16th Annual Bruce Woodcock Memorial Lecture by Deborah Lugsden, who has a lived experience of mental illness. Deborah will share how her social networks have enhanced her life.

The evening will also feature a panel discussion hosted by Elizabeth Crowther, MI Fellowship Chief Executive, with Neil, Deborah, Bridget Organ, Manager St Vincent’s Mental Health and carer Kerry Barret. This will be followed by an audience Q&A.
