Be swept up by one of Melbourne's most electrifying new groups. Featuring special guest Mirko Guerrini on tenor saxophone, and with guests including Hue Blanes (The Bamboos), this is a night of powerful and absorbing jazz with a salsa soul tinge.

Formed in 2012, Movement 9's gigs have been described as "a joyous playtime... big, bold sounds and indulgent grooves" (Canberra Jazz). Guided by the acclaimed arrangements of Joe McEvilly, nine inventive musicians come together to make compelling original music. Movement 9's debut album WINGS was hailed by the Weekend Australian in a four-star review.

For their first performances at Bennetts Lane, Movement 9 will feature Mirko Guerrini (tenor saxophone), Joe McEvilly (alto saxophone), Reuben Lewis (trumpet), Tom Sly (trumpet), Patrick Langdon (trombone), Hue Blanes (piano), Jonathan Skourletos (guitar), Brendan Tsui (bass) and James Milic (drums).

An internationally renowned tenor saxophonist, Mirko Guerrini has appeared on more than 50 albums, including 10 under his own name. A frequent collaborator of Stefano Bollani, he has performed with a who's who of jazz greats including Enrico Rava, Peter Erskine, Kenny Wheeler, Hermeto Pascoal, Paul McCandless and Dave Liebman.
