Celebrate the brilliance of the Baroque and Classic eras

The story of the Farewell Symphony is the stuff of musical legend. Frustrated with Prince Nikolaus Esterhazy's drawn-out stay at his summer palace, Haydn composed a fiery new symphony with a strong musical hint: in the final movement, the musicians gradually left the stage, until only two remained. The prince got the message: the court returned to the city the very next day.

Young bassoonist Jack Schiller is a remarkable talent whose passionate musicality has already won him many fans. He joins MCO for this concert to perform Mozart's Bassoon Concerto, a rarely-heard gem with which he recently made his debut with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra.
