Politics in NSW has been put under the microscope in a series of recent Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) enquiries, and the picture isn't pretty. Following an adverse finding by the ICAC, former Labor Party factional boss, Eddie Obeid, has become linked with corruption in NSW politics. The shocking resignation of Premier Barry O’Farrell over his failure to declare a lobbyist’s gift of a $3000 bottle of Grange was unrelated to corruption but has raised questions about networks of influence on the Liberal side of politics. The public has subsequently heard disturbing allegations concerning the distribution of political favours,to the use of slush funds to disguise the flow of otherwise prohibited donations to political parties.

Join Dr Simon Longstaff as he discusses what went wrong in NSW politics? What changes need to be made to create a democratic system that rewards good policy and advances the public interest? Is it possible to create a more ethical political system in NSW?
