A creative Refugee Week performance

The Ethnic Communities’ Council of Victoria in partnership with Multicultural Arts Victoria (MAV), AMES and Melbourne Playback Theatre Company presents a unique creative performance inspired by the national Refugee Week theme Restoring Hope. When refugees settle in Australia there is an emphasis on taking care of the essentials - food, housing, education and employment. Yet refugees also need resilience, courage and hope to face the challenges of settlement. Playback Theatre actors draw on these themes to create a unique performance from the stories of audience members. These actors and musicians bring the audience's stories of hope and resilience in a way that is entertaining, surprising, and transformative.

Restoring Hope is supported by Multicultural Arts Victoria as part of Emerge Festival 2014, which presents new refugee and emerging artists who have recently settled in Australia. From May 17 – July 5, Multicultural Arts Victoria will celebrate the 11th anniversary of Emerge Festival, showcasing talented artists from Melbourne’s emerging refugee communities and the diverse cultures that have woven colourful and intricate patterns into the identity of our unique city.
