Electro-laced, disco/funk tinged rock four-piece Super Massive return by popular demand to the Captain Cook Hotel on Saturday 14 June. The band has been playing a heap of free gigs locally to give Sydneysiders a chance to check them out while they add the final touches to their debut album, due out in coming months. This Saturday they will be teaming with US DJ Misterlazy. Expect some huge dance vibes and an array of soaring alternative pop songs from the dynamic band, fronted by charismatic singer Malina Hamilton-Smith.

Super Massive is the musical collaboration of ex-Machine Gun Fellatio drummer/composer Glenn Abbott and singer/songwriter Malina Hamilton-Smith. Onstage, the duo are joined by funky bass player Jed Wesley-Smith (King Clam, The Strange) and spunky guitarist Louis Georg.

The award-winning four-piece has been touring Australia and Asia for over five years, most recently playing a packed out Manning Bar for Raw Sydney and supporting 90s electro rock legends Def FX.

Seamlessly blending dramatic multi-layered synth-scapes, full live rock instrumentation and a funk rhythm section into a sound all their own, Super Massive’s musical influences encompass the modern electro/dance/pop of Daft Punk and Basement Jaxx, the disco of Chic and Nile Rodgers, add the stomp of The Brothers Johnson, the darkness and edginess of alternative bands like Depeche Mode and the riffs and rock energy of British rock bands like Led Zeppelin. Some seriously funky and hard hitting dance/rock.

The band took a two year hiatus from live shows from mid-2011 to mid-2013 to focus on writing and recording songs for their debut album, returning to the stage in August last year to launch their most recent single “In The Twilight…” at FBi Social. Since then, the band has been playing a string of free shows monthly at different Sydney venues, while they put the final touches on the album. Catch them near you!
