From 21st to 23rd August at Riverside Theatres, Playscript presents the Sydney premiere of Tales of Kabbarli, based on the extraordinary true story of legendary South Australian explorer and cultural commentator Daisy Bates.

Written and directed by Geoffrey Sykes, Tales of Kabbarli stars Robina Beard as Daisy Bates, the wife of Breaker Morant, who lived amongst outback Aboriginal tribes at Ooldea in South Australia in the early 20th century.

A story of land and reconciliation, Tales of Kabbarli reveals some unexpected insights into Bates, whose character and life are iconic parts of the history of both South Australia and Australia.

Tales of Kabbarli is set at Pyap, on the banks of the Murray River. Bates is 71, and poor. She has left the desert. She lives alone, seeking out tribal visitors. It is 3am, and she cannot sleep. She explores her writings, her past, her stories of the tribes and her political vision for an Aboriginal homeland, as well as her love of the land.
