The Flumes are not your ordinary band, creating an exquisitely eclectic blend of psychedelic folk laced with funk, blues, jazz and reggae. Now with a new album, ‘Sweet, Sweet Rain’ under their belts, the trio will be taking their luscious live sound on the road.

The tracks on the record explore long drunken walks, the Moon, unsustainable greed, dancing naked in the rain and as The Flumes put it, ‘letting shit go’.

The Flumes self-produced and recorded the new album at Big Rock Studios in Mt. Coolum with Brian Goodworth, the golden-eared in-house sound engineer at legendary Sunshine Coast Live Music venue, Solbar. Set right by the beach, it was irresistible for the band not to wander down to the ocean in between sessions for a wind down. Careful to not rush the process, Brian handed over the studio keys to The Flumes, giving them plenty of time to try different flavours for the fresh tunes.

All of the songs came together before heading into the studio except for the title track, ‘Sweet, Sweet Rain’. It was spontaneously written towards the end of the recording sessions and very nearly didn’t make the album. Home-spun demo recordings from many moons ago were given new life and a new home on ‘Sweet, Sweet Rain’.

Live, Harper Kayt Wallace immerses herself in 36 strings of Electric Harp, artfully bending the organic tones of this ancient instrument with wah and delay stylings as her smoky vocals sweep from whispers to roars. Combined with the tasty grooves of rhythm section players Stephan Beattie on Bass/Guitar & Elliot Gwynne on skins; the Flumes awaken audiences to the deliciousness of music.

The Flumes aren’t strangers to touring either, and have performed at the following soirees; Woodford, Earth Frequency, Floating Land, Island Vibe, Mission Evolve, Kuranda Roots, Palm Creek and Caloundra Music festivals, and have had the pleasure to support The WooHoo Revue, Kingfisha, The Beards, and the Violent Femmes.
