Sydney Independent Theatre Company (SITCO) presents for ONE WEEK ONLY the Pulitzer Prize nominated play

THOM PAIN (based on nothing) by Will Eno at the Old Fitzroy Theatre 5 - 10 May

Directed by Julie Baz Featuring David Jeffrey

Thom Pain is just like you, except worse. He is trying to save his life, to save your life - in that order. In his quest for salvation, he'll stop at nothing, be distracted by nothing, except maybe a piece of lint, or the woman in the second row. Award winning American playwright, Will Eno’s comic, disturbing and provocative play, THOM PAIN (based on nothing) is playing for one week only - 8pm Monday to Saturday, 5-10 May 2014 - at the iconic Old Fitzroy Theatre in Woolloomooloo.

THOM PAIN (based on nothing) charts one man's anguished journey from shattered childhood dreams to the tenuous optimism of adulthood, told in dangerous intimacy by a voice loaded with wry humour and deceptive charm. In a surreal but touching exploration of death, rejection, love and fear, Thom Pain questions as much as he reveals, yet affirms life's worth through a realisation of its unpredictable splendours amid its predictable mediocrities.

Receiving the highest acclaim in both London and the US, including being a finalist for the 2005 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, THOM PAIN (based on nothing) was first performed in 2004 at the Soho Theatre before transferring to Broadway.

"It's hard to imagine more dazzling writing on any stage...Eno is light, rhythmic and meticulous." THE LONDON DAILY TELEGRAPH

"Will Eno's work is inventive, disciplined and, at the same time, wild and evocative." EDWARD ALBEE

The award winning writer of THOM PAIN (based on nothing), Will Eno is a Guggenheim Fellow, a Helen Merrill Playwriting Fellow and a Fellow of the Edward F. Albee Foundation. SITCO’s production features the talents of David Jeffrey and is directed by Julie Baz. Originally from New Zealand, Jeffrey has been acting in Sydney for 20 years. He and Baz are the co-founders and co-artistic directors of Sydney Independent Theatre Company (SITCO), the current residents and managers of the Old Fitzroy Theatre.

The Old Fitz has been home to a diverse range of world class independent theatre since 1997. SITCO aims to entertain, challenge and inspire audiences with shows that are accessible, affordable and – most importantly – a really fun night out. Collaborating with a wide variety of Australian independent theatre companies and artists, SITCO’s 2014 season line-up consists of an eclectic range of productions, including five world premieres of new Australian plays. Up next after THOM PAIN (based on nothing) is Tooth and Sinew’s production of SCENES FROM AN EXECUTION by Howard Barker.

“Very affordable, high-quality productions, in a relaxed and friendly venue, featuring the very best in emerging artists.” DAILY SYDNEY
