Queenslanders Challenged to Test Their Physical Endurance and Mental Grit at “Probably the Toughest Event on the Planet”

Thousands are expected to descend upon Caloundra South over the weekend of August 16 and 17, as “Probably the Toughest Event on the Planet” returns to Queensland in 2014 – bigger and better than ever.

Only 1 hour from Brisbane and 2 hours from the Gold Coast, Tough Mudder Sunshine Coast is the biggest Tough Mudder course on the planet – serving up a blank geographical canvas of nearly 10,000 acres for mad-minded Course Designers to build the world’s best and toughest obstacles on.

Commenting on the announcement, Tough Mudder’s General Manager – Australasia, Jeremy Kann said, “Last year’s inaugural event was one of the biggest Tough Mudder events to-date, with thousands of participants taking on the Tough Mudder challenge – however we’re taking things to the next level in 2014, so be prepared for anything!”

“Over the last twelve months our Course Designers have been hard at work preparing new challenges and surprises to test the all-around strength, stamina, mental grit and teamwork of QLD Mudders. Whether it’s your first or tenth event, Tough Mudder is always a challenging and rewarding experience – so gather your friends and family, and together unlock a sense of accomplishment unlike anything else,” continued Jeremy.

The gruelling Sunshine Coast course is expected to be the most epic Tough Mudder yet with a host of new challenges set to test the team work and spirit of participants. At Caloundra South “Mudders” will tackle a 20km military-style course designed by British Special Forces with exciting new obstacles including –
- “Leap of Faith” – a flying leap over a pit of water to a hanging cargo net
- “Pole Dancer” – cross a pit of water on two rails, using only upper body strength
- “Hangin Tough” – a series of roman rings above a pit of water

Some old Tough Mudder favourites will also make a triumphant return including “Everest” – a greased-up quarter-pipe; and “Electroshock Therapy” – a gauntlet of 10,000-volt-charged dangling wires participants must barrel through to get to the finish line. The goal for participants is not to win a medal but simply to finish – on average, only 78% successfully complete the event. With a course designed to be virtually impossible to complete individually, 80% of participants register with a team.

If you’ve completed two or more Tough Mudders this is your chance to join the Mudder Legion, earn your Legionnaire headband and tackle the imposing Legionnaires exclusive obstacle “Fire in your Hole” – a near vertical drop combining fire and water.

Tough Mudder events have wide appeal with participants ranging from veterans to business executives. For many Mudders, Tough Mudder is more than just a weekend event – it’s a community dedicated to pushing boundaries, bringing out the best in one another and sharing new experiences with others. More than 4,000 diehard Mudders have even had the Tough Mudder logo permanently tattooed on their bodies.

Registrations for the Tough Mudder Sunshine Coast event are now open. For more information, check out https://toughmudder.com.au/events/2014-sunshine-coast-au

Spectator tickets are also available. For those interested in finding other ways to get involved – and getting a discount on future registration – Tough Mudder is currently also on the lookout for volunteers to be a part of the action.
