Tour de Cure will roll in to Garden City Shopping Centre on Saturday, March 8 where a team of cyclists will pedal continuously on stationary bikes to help raise money for cancer research.

The event will be held in the Central Fashion Mall from 9am to 5pm where four participants will aim to cover a distance of 500km in just 8 hours. Donations obtained from the event will contribute towards Tour de Cure’s goal of raising 3 million dollars in 2014.

The Tour de Cure main event will run from March 28- April 6, and see participants embark on an epic journey from Sydney to Hobart. The ride will fall over 10 days, and cover a total distance of 1595kms.

Promoting the mission statement, ‘Riding to Cure Cancer’, the Tour de Cure event is in its 8th year, and has managed to raise over 10 million dollars to date. Funds raised contribute to a range of foundations and research projects, including programs that assist those living with cancer and cancer affiliated prevention and education campaigns.

Garden City Shopping Centre will be encouraging shoppers to dig deep and show their support for the riders by donating at the event on Saturday. To show their support, Garden City will also be contributing by matching all funds raised by shoppers, up to the value of $5000.

The Coffee Club will also be supporting the event by donating 50c from each cup of coffee sold on the day to the Tour de Cure fund.

This year Tour de Cure hopes to raise more than $3 million, setting a new record of $500,000 more than last year’s goal. The team contributing in the Garden City event will include event veteran Simon Thomas, Chris Pepper, Doug Hanna and new resident to Perth, Matt Fulton.
