Each year in Australia almost 46,000 babies are admitted to Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU) and Special Care Nurseries (SCN).

The Walk for Prems now in it's 5th year is the largest premature and sick infant event in Australia. The aim of the event is three fold:
- To celebrate the lives impacted by premature birth: not only those children who have gone on to live happy and healthy lives but also for those whose lives were lost due to prematurity or sickness.
- To raise awareness about prematurity among those who may not know: This includes the issues surrounding premature babies and the impact on families as well as the work of The Life's Little Treasures Foundation.
- Raise funds for those currently on the journey: All monies raised through Walk for Prems will help Life's Little Treasures Foundation to provide support services and resources to families in need.
