Audiences are going to respond in very different ways to this film. It is a Frederick Wiseman-style observational documentary about the establishment of a Free School (based on A.S. Neill's Summerhill) in New Jersey. In Free Schools, there are no compulsory classes and the curriculum is driven solely by the interests of the students. There is no testing and the rules are made up democratically by the students. If you are interested in alternative education, you will want to see these ideas put into practice.

If, on the other hand, you have a keen sense of the ridiculous (or perhaps if you've ever been a teacher) you will find this much funnier than any episode of Modern Family. The teachers, with their typically American sense that the world can be made perfect, keep on calling school meetings presided over by six year old bullies. Perhaps a metaphor for modern democracy? You be the judge, but no matter what your thoughts on education, you will agree that this is the most painfully hilarious film you seen in a long time.
