On Monday the 26th January, 2015, the eighth annual Belgrave Survival Day event will once again celebrate Indigenous culture and the survival of Australia's first people through 226 years of white settlement. This year’s festival will focus on the theme of Caring for Country, and always is a free and family friendly event.

This year we are graced with the presence of Casey Donovan, singer, actor and author, the 2004 Australian Idol winner, and winner and nominee of several awards including ARIAs and Deadly Awards for Best Album, Best Single and Most Promising New Talent.

Also taking the stage of Survival Day will be Miss Hood, described by JJJ as the femme fatale of Melbourne’s Aboriginal Hip Hop, Chachi, a Melbourne Soul-Pop artist, the Legendary Joe Geia from Northern Queensland, and Gnarnayarrahe Waitiarie (Uncle Joey) who will perform a Didgeridoo meditation. There will also be traditional dancing and engaging speakers, all hosted again by the fabulous MC Leila Gurruwiwi of the Marngrook Footy Show.

The Welcome to Country and smoking ceremony will be led by Wurundjeri elder and educator, Uncle Bill Nicholson, followed by traditional dances where the audience will be invited to join in.

There will also be various food stalls to suit all as well as craft and information stalls.

This is a family friendly and free event with plenty of children's activities (including a great playground and also located next to the Belgrave Pool).

Please consider the environment by carpooling or catching the train - the park is a short walk from Belgrave Train station.
