Art Talking is a series of talks by professional artists undertaking the Bogong Centre for Sound Culture (BCSC) Residency Program. The aim of the series is to provide the broader community of the Alpine Shire an opportunity to engage with contemporary artists and learn first-hand about their practice.

While in residence, Austrian composer and media artist Daniel Lercher and Australian photographer Bryden Williams will each share their work and vision.

Daniel will present an overview of the site-specific project he is developing at the BCSC highlighting the inaudible sounds contained within the alpine environment. Daniel will discuss the use of specialist microphones and software, which he uses to document place, and convey alternative listening perspectives. During his presentation Daniel will explain some of the influences informing his work using examples from soundscape composition, sound art, and experimental music to unpack his arts practice.

Bryden, in his presentation, will introduce his art practice and give a brief summary of the activities he has undertaken whilst in residency at BCSC. Bryden will discuss his ongoing interest in the persistence of engineered spaces within the natural environment. To support this topic Bryden will discuss two recent photographic and video projects that were created as responses to the Australian pastoral identity and the paradox between the varied emotional, physical and psychological connections to the natural landscape and the prevalent desire to conquer and manipulate these landscapes and their geologies. Bryden will supplement this with a screening his work Easel in Time and slides of the photographic project titled En Plein Air.
