With a backstory to make your jaw drop and a sound to match, Omara 'Bombino' Moctar is one of those rare cases of pure musical genius.

A member of the Tuareg Ifoghas tribe, a nomadic people from North Africa, Bombino taught himself to play the guitar as a herder in the desert near Tripoli, in exile from his native Niger. Tracked down by filmmaker Ron Wyman, who had spent a year looking for him after hearing a cassette of his music, Bombino went on to become a musical hero of his people.

His latest album 'Nomad', produced by Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys, debuted at #1 on the Billboard World Music chart, and was named in Rolling Stone’s “Top 50 Albums of 2013”. This is part of Tanks own 5th annual World MUSIC Series – with a subscription offer of 4 shows, valued at $125 – selling for just $90.

Tanks Arts Centre is a Creative Venues facility, operating under the arts & cultural arm of Cairns Regional Council.
