Named by folk-blog Timber and Steel as ‘Janis Joplin and Ben Harper’s love-child’, Cass Eager’s mix of raw blues, husky soul and lighthearted ditties are all punctuated with her unique whisky-soaked vocals. Emotive, slightly raspy, at times tender and at times powerful – Eager’s voice is the driving force of her music. Sometimes funky, at other times soaked with alt-country twang, and sometimes she rocks it out down and dirty. But when you get down to it, the woman is a sworn soul sister through and through.

Internationally-renowned but defiantly grassroots, Cass Eager is one of those rare artists that’s mastered everything from the foot-stomping blues to a sensual slow burner. She’s been called ‘one of the best female singers in Australia’ by Richard Glover (ABC), and even Diesel claims she could ‘sing the phone book to you and you wouldn’t get bored’.

Since embarking on a solo career in 2003, Eager’s music has taken her to some of the world’s far-flung and unexpected places and afforded her some incredible experiences. Performing ‘tours of duty’ for the Australian Army troops she’s been to Egypt, East Timor, The Middle East and the Solomon Islands. She’s also travelled all over North America and Canada on multiple tours, one with Ex-Wilco/Blue Rodeo bandmate Bob Egan. That voice of hers has also travelled regularly along Australia’s East Coast, Darwin and West Australia. Performing in such diverse locations as CBGB’s in NYC to the beachfront huts in Dili has given Eager a depth and richness that comes from experience.

Eager has showcased at industry conferences including SXSW, NXNE and Canadian Music Week. In Australia, Cass loves a good festival and has appeared at the Byron Bay Blues & Roots Festival, Sydney Blues Festival, Festival of the Sun, Peats Ridge Festival, The Gympie Muster, Blues On Broadbeach Festival, Gumball Festival, Rip Curl Pro Festival, Echuca Festival, Darling Harbour Festival, Surry Hills Festival, Manly Food & Wine Festival and more. She’s hit the stage with acts including the likes of John Butler Trio, Cat Empire, Ash Grunwald, Jeff Lang, Diesel, Lior, Paul Kelly and Alex Lloyd to name a few.

Eager has always had close ties to blues rock trio, Chase the Sun. Cass and Chase The Sun have had a cosy working relationship ever since guitarist Jan Rynsaardt worked on Cass’ debut album “Beautiful Day” and, as well as touring extensively with the band, Cass has been featured vocalist on many of their shows. Now, her new band The Velvet Rope includes two of the three members of Chase the Sun – drummer Jon Howell and bassist Ryan Van Gennip (as well as Jono ‘Slim Hips’ Dallimore on guitar). There must be some magic to the combination because not only were they nominated for Best Group and Best Female Vocalist recently for the Australian Blues ‘Chain’ Awards, the band have been getting rave reviews of late…and keeping in line with her reputation Cass is refusing to sit still.
