Thirteen-piece Afro-Cuban Salsa ensemble Chukale will be returning to The Reef Hotel Casino this month for two special nights of Afro Cuban Salsa! The last time the impressive outfit performed in the North two years ago, their shows were a full-house affair and these nights promise to be no different. If you are a lover of vibrant, passionate music, then an evening in the company of Chukale is guaranteed to delight.

Directed by percussionist and lead singer Gustavo Cereijo, Chukale has built its reputation from the ground up, performing residencies in a variety of Brisbane hot spots, including Cloudland and the Alhambra Lounge to name a few, even travelling down to Byron Bay’s famous Beach Hotel. They’ve been added to innumerous festival bills, including Woodford Folk Festival, Bellingen Global Carnival, Darling Harbour’s Fiesta Festival and the Sydney Salsa Congress.

With these performances they’ve earned themselves a stellar reputation. They’ve supported touring greats like Salsa icons Sonora Carruseles (Columbia), multiple Grammy award winners Los Amigos Invisibles (Venezuela) and Afro-Cuban All Stars to name a few. Legendary Buena Vista Social Club lead singer Felix Baloy and flautist Poblitu Tamayo recently recorded with the band and Uruguay’s multi-gold record selling vocalist Gonzalo Porta and Cuban pianist Marialy Pacheco have joined them on stage.

These are huge accolades for a band which only formed in 2005. Chukale features some of the best musicians out of Queensland, such as conga maestro, Uruguayan-born Gustavo, Alex Nesevski (timbales), and Sacha Kloostra (drums), to name a few. The Conservatorium-trained brass section comprises the likes of trumpet player Shannon Marshall.

Don’t miss Chukale as they return to the North for a steaming performance this month.
