Australia’s favourite symphony – Dvořák’s New World – is brought to life by the West Australian Symphony Orchestra and guest conductor Giancarlo Guerrero. The promise of Dvořák’s new home in America and the yearning for his Bohemian homeland are captured in this symphony, combining the folk music of old and new worlds. This American-inspired program featuring the lyrical Dvořák symphony, described after its premiere by the New York Evening Post as “the greatest symphonic work ever composed in this country”, also features Copland’s heroic Fanfare for a Common Man and Joan Tower’s Fanfare for the Uncommon Woman. American violinist Jennifer Koh makes her WASO debut in Bernstein’s Serenade, inspired by Plato’s celebrated dialogue on the nature of love.
