Whitehorse City Council’s annual Heritage Week will be held from 10-17 September 2015.

This year, we celebrate the ANZAC Centenary with a particular focus on commemorating the involvement of Whitehorse residents in WWI.

Heritage Week provides a wonderful opportunity to be part of the Whitehorse community.

The Program of Events cater for a range of interests and offer the opportunity to connect with other people as well as the incredible history of war times past.

Three hundred and four volunteers from the Blackburn, Mitcham, Nunawading and Vermont areas served during WWI. Fifty did not return home. The aim of this Australian Institute of Genealogical Studies (AIGS) Anzac Centenary commemoration project was to identify those who served and publish their names in a book titled For God, King and Country. Author Shirley Devery will discuss the resources used to identify these men and women, and how the war impacted those at home.
