From Sorrowing Earth: A symphonic celebration of Australian composer Nigel Butterley A.M.
— Saturday 31 October 2015, Iwaki Auditorium, Melbourne

Melbourne’s Arcko Symphonic Ensemble will honour the work of one of Australia’s most respected living composers, Nigel Butterley A.M. with a concert at the Iwaki Auditorium on Saturday 31 October.

The concert, From Sorrowing Earth, takes its name from Butterley’s 1991 symphony and celebrates his extraordinary contribution to Australian music, as well as his 80th birthday this year.

Presented in partnership with ABC Classic FM, the free concert will feature:

The Arcko Symphonic Ensemble, comprising more than 60 virtuoso musicians;
Conductor and percussionist Timothy Phillips; and
Internationally renowned, London-based Australian pianist Zubin Kanga.
The program includes From Sorrowing Earth, a new concerto for piano and orchestra by Elliott Gyger specially commissioned for this concert, and Butterley’s award-winning radiophonic work In the Head, The Fire.
Established by Melbourne musician and conductor Timothy Phillips in 2008, Arcko performs large-scale, primarily Australian orchestral works.
