This Australia Day long weekend Hello Fridays at Zhivago is thrilled to present Triple J favourite, Chela (AUS) who has recently returned from America for an exclusive live DJ set at Zhivago on Friday 23rd January, 2015.

Fremantle-born, Melbourne-based Chelsea May Wheatley, better known as Chela, has been exercising a natural musical finesse from an early age. Firstly influenced by a variety of musical styles ranging from such genres as Rap to Punk, she has now emerged as a nu-pop whiz kid with a style all her own.

It was first back in 2012 that Chela started collaborating with Ben Ely of Australian band Regurgitator to produce her first single ‘Plastic Gun’. This catchy electro-pop tune made it to high rotation on Triple J as well as her tracks ‘Full moon’ and ‘Guts’. With that Chela’s solo career was officially launched immediately drawing the attention from some of the industries most noted Producers and Songwriters.

Chela has continued to make waves in the world of electro-pop and dance, featuring on LA producer Goldroom’s summer anthem and radio hit ‘Fifteen’, as well as indie group Clubfeet’s single ‘Heartbreak’. Focused on touring with a full band (members of Gotye, Clubfeet, Lisa Mitchell and Owl Eyes) and lending her writing mastery to other artists, Chela’s latest track ‘Closure’, written with Owl Eyes and Styalz Fuego (Wiley, Aston Shuffle), was released as the first single off Owl Eyes debut LP ‘Nightswim’.

Her single ‘Romanticise’, written and produced with renowned dance producer DCUP, is a perfectly constructed pop tune with an infectious hook. This is only the start of what’s to come from Chela. With a plethora of songs waiting to be released on a new EP in 2015, Chela is definitely a force to be reckoned with.

Don’t miss out on this brilliant opportunity to check out a live DJ set from Australia’s own Chela for one night only at Zhivago on Friday 23rd January plus local DJ support acts from Dialect, BottleRockets and Faint One. Get in early to Zhivago to start your Australia Day long weekend celebrations early!
