The U3A Melbourne City Thursday Forum

Like all the best photographers, Bruce Postle has an eye for a great picture. And he has some great tales to tell. So this promises to be one of the most fascinating Thursday Forums ever.

Anyone who has seen it remembers his world-famous shot of trainer Tommy Woodcock lying beside his champion racehorse Reckless on the night before the 1977 Melbourne Cup.

Bruce will show and tell about that picture and many others. Every one of them with a fascinating back-story.

Little wonder then that his photographs are in so many national collections, including the MCG’s National Sport Museum and both the National Portrait Gallery and the National Library in Canberra.

Among his many honours, Bruce was inducted into the MCG Media Hall of Fame and to the Victorian Media Hall of Fame. He received a Quill Lifetime Achievement Award by the Melbourne Press Club in 2007.

Bruce's third book, The Image Maker, a 400-page retrospective of his life as a press photographer, illustrated with over 450 photographs, was published in July 2011.

Ring U3A Melbourne City on 9639.5209 (between 10.00am - 3.00pm Mon-Fri) to book a place. $3.00 donation at the door (includes afternoon tea)
