Gallery 2 is transformed with 'Making A Mark' by Artist in Focus, Gayle Mason. Working in residence on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 11am-3pm until 8 November, Mason creates a 10 metre long Emaki drawing using natural mark making techniques that reference the past - as passed down through family, from her own experiences and through shared emotions.

“Every thread of the artists’ life comes through a drawing or painting... Everyone has their own set of marks - some subtle, some with tension and energy. We all bring our own history to our mark making.” Gayle Mason

Inspired by Japanese artist Mayako Nakamura, Mason creates her marks from charcoal, pastel, graphite, acrylic and ink. Emaki is traditionally a Japanese narrative forming a horizontal picture scroll created and used predominantly from the 11th to 16th Century. Visitors are invited to add to a communal Emaki and Mason will host workshops for adults and school groups (bookings essential).
