The band named themselves after one of The Who’s most iconic songs, so it’s no surprise that The Substitutes have created a show called Maximum R&B that features music from The Who and the very best of the rest of the British '60s R'n'B bands.

After eight years of performing around Melbourne, The Substitutes finally have an opportunity to do justice to the music of this powerful band that has long influenced their sound and many others around the world. The band of Neil Scott, Peter Robinson, Peter Reed and Peter Summers will be joined on stage by Gil Matthews, the legendary child prodigy drummer from Billy Thorpe’s Aztecs, and Danny Robinson, lead singer of The Wild Cherries (who also featured Lobby Loyde) and member of ‘60s pop group The Virgil Brothers.

Not only do The Substitutes play the music of The Who from 1965 to 1970, but they also open the night by covering the best material of the best bands of the ‘60s British R&B era. We’re talking the Rolling Stones, Pretty Things, The Yardbirds, Small Faces, Spencer Davis Group, The Kinks, The Animals, Them, Nashville Teens, The Zombies and Manfred Mann.

It’s a show guaranteed to appeal to My Generation and the next generation and the next generation because it celebrates the songs that have inspired the last 50 years of rock music. Book now!
