Aboriginal Singers of Soul – Beijing Tour Fundraiser…They’re rhythmic, lively and have a sound that will take you back to another time. They are The Merindas; Australia’s premier Indigenous female trio, paying tribute to some of Motown’s greatest hits and adding their own along the way.

The name Merinda, comes from the Aboriginal Eora language – meaning beautiful woman and is a tribute to their Indigenous heritage. But there is far more to this very talented group than just their name. Candice, Kristel and Rhiannon are amazing performers whose stars are on the rise as they send ripples across the Australia’s Soul Scene.

The Merindas caught their big break in 2012 performing a one off show for Noongar Radio’s premiere of the hit film The Sapphires. They sold out their first show in 2012 and have been performing non-stop ever since. In 2013 the group was nominated for a Deadly award in Sydney for the category of ‘Most Promising New Talent In Music’.

They have supported some of Australia’s biggest stars including Kasey Donovan, Christine Anu and Troy Cassar-Daley. Building on their already expanding fan base the group released their first single Ready To Love and took their show on the road to Sydney, Melbourne and will soon go international with a Beijing tour!

Their show features some of Motown’s biggest hits performed with glitzy costumes, a gravitas so energetic and a sound so infectious that none can resist their incredible talent. The Merindas are currently backed by the soulful band Rhythm 22. They draw influences from their backgrounds in RnB, Soul, Funk, Rock and Jazz. Since the band formed in 2010 they have been well received by audiences in some of Perth’s top venues. Together they make The Merindas a powerhouse of talent and entertainment.

On this night, the girls are raising funds to get to China where they are set to perform seven shows in some of Beijing’s best local music venues late this year. The girls will also get the chance to meet with the head of Sony China. This show is featuring one of Perth’s funkiest soul sisters, Randa & The Soul Kingdom and Australia’s most admired performer, Phil Walleystack. Come and support local talent and help improve the links between Australia and China.
